The Taube Foundation for Jewish Life & Culture congratulates friend and colleague Marian Turski on being decorated by the Commissioner for Human Rights with the Honorary Medal "For Merit to Human Rights Protection." Marian Turski serves as Chairman of the Museum Council (for POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw) and Deputy Chairman of the Association of the Jewish Historical Institute of Poland, which is responsible for the Core Exhibition of the POLIN Museum. A Holocaust survivor and long-time journalist for Polityka, Marian Turski was also awarded the French National Order of the Legion of Honor in 2012. There are decorations which bestow honor on their recipients, and there are recipients who honor the decoration they are awarded, and Marian Turski certainly belongs in the latter category.
Marian Turski, the Deputy Chairman of the Association of the Jewish Historical Institute of Poland, has been decorated by the Commissioner for Human Rights Adam Bodnar Ph.D. with the Honorary Medal “For Merit To Human Rights Protection.”
According to the statement of reasons for the decoration, “He devoted his entire creative life to reminding us about the human right to dignity.” He was also honored for his “meetings with young people and patriotic education focused on the ideals of building a hatred-free world, where human beings treat each other with understanding, compassion, and empathy.” Congratulations to the honoree.
