Galicia Jewish Museum

In August 2012, the Galicia Jewish Museum in Krakow organized a unique and exciting event, "Graffiti Week." For the first time in the Museum's history, artists created murals inspired by Jewish culture in the temporary exhibition space. Well-known Krakovian street and graffiti artists, most connected with the Krakow Academy of Arts, gathered together for this collaboration. The artists were influenced by Jewish symbolism and motifs, using the symbols of the menorah, the Star of David, Hebrew calligraphy, and Jewish paper-cutting. The murals were accompanied by a photography exhibition entitled "Lomographic Kazimierz," using the multi-exposure photography technique. "Graffiti Week" had a grand finale with a concert, during which artists united different elements of hip-hop culture, such as MC, DJ, beatbox and graffiti with klezmer and Oriental music through the sounds of the clarinet, duduk and the Hindu sitar.
