TAUBE PHILANTHROPIES CHALLENGE GRANT WILL HELP MAKE
GOLDEN GATE TENNIS CENTER RENOVATIONS A REALITY
Tad and Dianne Taube encourage donations to help upgrade one of the
best tennis facilities in the nation
SAN FRANCISCO – Taube Philanthropies is proud to announce a $6.5 million challenge grant to generate support for a $26.3M renovation of the Golden Gate Park Tennis Center, which will make the 124-year-old “Cradle of Champions” one of the best public tennis facilities in the U.S. The Board of Supervisors approved the project earlier this week.
To date, more than half of the funds have been secured through significant contributions from Taube Philanthropies, the Lisa and Douglas Goldman Fund, and the Koret Foundation. The Taube challenge grant is designed to catalyze further philanthropic support for the Tennis Center to raise the remaining $6 million needed to complete the project.
The project will also provide for an expansion of the Tennis and Learning Center youth development program, which serves some of San Francisco’s most underserved communities by promoting academic achievement, health, wellness, and social and emotional development through the sport of tennis. Support for youth programs throughout the Bay Area is a key thematic thread throughout the Foundation’s many philanthropic engagements.
“Tennis is a sport that allows people of all ages – young and old – to play together as families throughout their entire lives.” said Tad Taube, Founder of Taube Philanthropies. “My love of tennis started as a young boy, and it’s incredibly important for other children to discover this same passion.”
Construction is slated to start in early 2019, with a grand re-opening in 2020 – Golden Gate Park’s 150th anniversary. To make a donation and view the plans for the project, please visit the Tennis Coalition website at http://www.tenniscoalitionsf.org/ggp-tennis-center-renovation/.
